Mangalore Incident – Demystified

February 13, 2009 1 comment

I have been following the Mangalore incident for the past couple of weeks. The blogosphere has been abuzz with several posts on it. This post captures the series of posts that I followed, adding several dimensions to the incident.
The first and foremost post, from a prolific blogger, Nita, is here. Like all others, I was annoyed that who gave these people rights to take laws in their hand. The surprising thing is that, the ruling BJP government, apparently did nothing and also backed them.
Then came this post, by blogger Amrutha, which points to another post which justifies the Mangalore incident. It seems, there is an orchestrated attempt to “seduce, entrap and convert innocent Hindu girls”. So these people, intervened and stopped girls from being “flicked away”. Almost a verbal duel took place in her blog, between the people who supported that incident and those who were against it. But as one commenter pointed, not all women are independent, capable, free thinking women, there are millions who are too innocent to understand the dangers from Jehadis. There was a point in his argument!!!. At any cost we really cannot let them become female suicide bombers. Wondering how to stop such things from happening…..Regardless of his arguments, I still detest those group of people who took violent ways to stop girls.
Then came this post, which added another dimension to this incident, the issue of Date rape. An excerpt from that post,
“Sometimes, initially the girl was ready for the fun, and she actually enjoyed, but after a little nap, when she actually realized what just happened, she goes to defensive mode and claims a rape, sending the college boy who was her earnest friend to prison for an offense, which we consider as the first-degree-felony”.
To summarize, the root cause to all these issues, is that there was no proper way of dealing with crime and this proves the ineffectiveness of laws in our country. Be it against embracing (enticement, forceful, coerced, induced, deceived etc) other religion or taking the route of violence to stop it, there was no proper laws to deal with it or it was not effectively used. Would it be possible with libertarian society?
Just want to finish the post with the dictionary definition of terrorism, which says it is “The calculated use of violence (or the threat of violence) against civilians in order to attain goals that are political or religious or ideological in nature; this is done through intimidation or coercion or instilling fear”.
This is what exactly these people do in the name of moral policing, which should be stopped in a better way than sending pink chaddis to them. I would say, we shouldn’t dignify these people by paying attention to them. Just to know how these people became famous, read this

“All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”
