Canine Menace

I liked Bangalore ever since I landed here in 2005. Pleasant weather, parks and trees, plenty of jobs, malls, pubs etc made Bangalore a happening city. But, there is always a fly in the ointment. In Bangalore’s case, its stray dogs. Ask anyone who travels in the night around the city, he will have at least one story to tell about being chased by stray dogs. In the past 4 years, to the best of my knowledge, at least 5 kids would have been killed by stray dogs.
Whenever, such news catches the citizens attention, there will always be two arguments. One, claims that dogs are innocent, they are man’s best friend, blame the butcher shop, irresponsible citizens who feed these dogs. The other argument, blames the BBMP, asking them to sterilize/kill these strays. BBMP, caught between animal activists and innocent victims, launched some programs like ABC (Animal birth control), which failed due to several reasons. Meanwhile, stray dogs, honestly obeyed God’s words by being constantly fruitful and multiply.
Personally, I still don’t buy the arguments of animal activists. I can’t stand by the side of dogs, which hardly lives a decade and multiplies its population at least 10 times, and bites at least a handful of people in their lifespan. Of course, earth belongs to them as well, but how could they justify the deaths of those innocent kids…I honestly cannot! I am a human being and I can sympathize and empathize the pain of those families which lost their loving kids. Hope the BBMP officials as well!!!
Stray dogs, is certainly a scar on the face of Bangalore. Wish it is surgically removed as early as possible.
P.S: When I was googling about stray dogs, I found that the problem is not just in Bangalore, India. It exists is some cities like Taiwan as well. 🙂
